Job Description

JOB SUMMARY: A professional registered nurse responsible for the assessment of educational needs and implementation of an organized program for education directed toward the goal of clinical competence and cost effective patient care of the highest quality. Utilizes the nursing process to develop, implement, and evaluate education for staff, patients, and the community. Serves as a resource and role model in the areas of clinical practice, patient advocacy, and nursing leadership.


Job Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
Graduate of a school of nursing. Master's Degree in Nursing or currently enrolled in a program and on track to complete within four (4) years of hire.
Experience:
Five (5) years recent acute care experience. Three (3) years clinical experience in focus area of job responsibility.
License and Certification:
Current unrestricted License in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Connecticut. Ability to obtain and maintain department specific certifications. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) upon hire.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
Education:
Master’s degree in Nursing.
Experience:
Five (5) years of clinical experience in the area of expertise required.
License and Certification:
Certified Nurse Educator (CNE). Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions, and effectively communicate information. Basic computer skills (including opening/reading email, basic internet use).
Thorough knowledge of all aspects of the specific clinical area of expertise. Excellent leadership abilities. Excellent interpersonal skill necessary to communicate with departments, employees, physicians and manager. Strong customer service orientation. Ability to work collaboratively with all departments. Demonstrated written and presentation skills. Ability to handle multiple priorities. Ability to manage time and meet deadlines in a stressful work environment. Ability to work independently.

PROBLEM SOLVING AND DECISION MAKING
Considerable decision making authority concerning the daily activities of the work unit, including providing recommendation for department policy change. Requires the ability to take the appropriate action in response to changes, circumstances or problems. Requires the ability to exercise discretion and use good judgment to perform duties promptly and consistently with little direction. Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
